ASSESSMENT OF WOUNDS
Here are five good pieces of advice you can use if your dog gets a superficial wound, scratch, or bite:
- Trim the fur around the wound: Trim the hair around the wound so it is clearly visible and can be cleaned properly.
- Rinse the wound with water: Use lukewarm tap water to rinse the wound for foreign objects like dirt and other particles. Avoid rubbing the wound; instead, gently flush it.
- Disinfect the area: Use a cleansing product without soap and chlorhexidine to disinfect the area. Disinfect the area 1-3 times daily to promote healing. Avoid using substances that may irritate the wound.
- Prevent licking: Avoid your dog licking the wound. Use a collar or cover the wound with a pet bandage. For wounds on the legs, you can apply a pet bandage, sock, or dressing. If using a dressing, ensure it protects the wound from dirt and debris. It’s important to secure the dressing so it stays in place. Some dogs may try to remove or bite the dressing, in which case a protective collar may be necessary.
- Protect the dressing during walks: Ensure your dog wears a plastic bag or a waterproof cover over the dressing to keep it dry. Replace a wet dressing immediately. Always remember to protect the dressing in damp weather.
Inspect the wound daily: Check the wound or scratch daily and assess its progress. If healing is underway, the wound will reduce in size, and any redness/swelling will diminish. If you notice signs of infection such as redness, warmth, or tenderness, contact your veterinarian. In most cases, daily disinfection of the wound and protection with a bandage or dressing will contribute to a good and speedy recovery.

WOUND CARE WITH BACXITIUM
Bacxitium cleanses and treats wounds and skin disorders by effectively killing harmful bacteria, viruses, and spores within minutes using the natural active ingredient Chloranol. This active ingredient is naturally produced in the immune systems of all mammals to combat bacteria, viruses, and spores, making it free from steroids and antibiotics. Bacxitium applied dissolves the cell membrane of harmful bacteria, followed by cell bursting through osmolysis within minutes. This process effectively kills harmful bacteria on a daily basis, thereby supporting the natural healing process. Bacxitium is safe for use on your skin, your animals, and is environmentally friendly.
Treatment with Bacxitium is simple:
- Trim the fur around the wound to expose the wound clearly.
- Rinse the wound with water to remove foreign particles like dirt. Use lukewarm tap water for comfort and avoid rubbing the wound; instead, gently flush it. For heavily soiled wounds, Bacxitium wound rinse spray can be beneficial.
- Apply Bacxitium spray to the wound 1-3 times daily for 10-14 days. You will notice improvement within a few days as daily disinfection with Bacxitium supports wound healing.
- Apply a plaster/dressing if possible to protect the wound from external bacteria and support healing. Bacxitium active plasters are recommended here, offering dual functions: protection against external bacteria and the ability to disinfect the wound through a delivery hole in the plaster 1-3 times daily.
This regimen ensures effective wound care and promotes optimal healing with the use of Bacxitium.
